Scouter Ken McDonald started us off with a big welcome to all in attendance. Scouter Lars Woodhouse then thanked our sponsor, Loblaw, and the other organizations who have helped us along the way:
- The City of Fredericton for their support, loan of tools, garbage pickup, and the connection to their already phenomenal trail system
- NB Liquor — this section of trail is on their property
- The Fredericton Area Watersheds Association for blazing the trail in the first place, in 2004
- The Conservation Council of New Brunswick
- Jim Goltz and Charlene Mayes
- Fredericton Trails Coalition
One of our Scouts delivered an excellent speech on the timeline of the project, beginning with the vote we held when deciding on an environmental project we could complete this year, followed with an outline of the exploratory and work trips to the trail.
Mayor Brad Woodside then thanked the Scouts for their hard work on the trail and cut the ribbon. The ceremonial ribbon was the same pink flagging tape used to mark the trail, and Mayor Woodside cut it with a pocket knife. He didn't have his Scout Knife Permit, but we let him handle the pocket knife anyway :-)
